Diablo Immortal: How long to finish the campaign?

In an exclusive interview with Blizzard to our German colleagues from MeinMMOtwo developers of Diablo Immortal began to reveal information about the game’s length and narrative structure. Regarding the release date, if the last phase of beta testing already showed encouraging signs as to the completion of the game, Wyatt Cheng (GameDirector) and Joe Grubb (Game Designer) entrusted to Leya Jankowski (MeinMMO editor) that the game was still planned for the mid-2022.

Will we be able to teleport directly at the end of the game? Let’s hope not!

How long is the main campaign?

The answer to this question is not obvious since the future MMORPG Diablo is not not thought of as a simple linear campaign which can be easily estimated. Wyatt Cheng clarifies that the game will be divided into eight areaseach of them comprising a narrative arc lasting between between 15 and 45 minutes. However these areas have level restrictions, so it is not possible to just pass, do the story and continue. At a minimum, ano leveling phase is necessary and this can take some time. If we really want an answer to this question, we can consider that the campaign alone can be completed in just under ten hours if you just take the time to gain levels to move from one area to another.

The two developers explain, however, that in reality there is enough content in each area to spend hours there and that the game experience will be different from player to player depending on their profile. According to them, we cannot limit Diablo Immortal to its campaign, it is a game with more ambitions.

Ambitions worthy of the saga?

According to Joe Grubb, “Immortal is the biggest and most ambitious Diablo ever released“. He explains that apart from the main campaign, these are many side story arcs waiting for the player. Like any MMO worth its salt, a plethora of side quests will be available during the adventure, not to mention the instances of each zone, fixed dungeons or elder rifts which will occupy the adventurers for many hours.

The game designer ends with this assertion: “If you ignore all these contents, [le jeu] will go very quickly. But if you want to fully experience Immortal, it’s a much bigger experience.“. On our side, we like to farm the successes, so we risk spending more than 10 hours there! Let’s hope that the experience is sufficiently immersive to make us want to stay as long as possible in this new Diablo and that the latter proudly completes the mythical saga.

Following accusations of harassment that shook Activision Blizzard about a year ago, the studio was forced to react quickly to limit the damage. However, can a simple financial agreement be enough to make people forget the excesses pointed out? Not sure.
