Diablo IV: Blizzard has a plan to avoid the death of a hardcore character due to a disconnection

Blizzard is planning a change in Diablo IV that will have the effect of automatically activating a magic scroll in the event of a disconnect. This allows you to instantly teleport a character to town.

It’s a change that should delight gamers who love the challenge of extreme mode (“hardcore” in English) in Diablo IV. A future hack’n’slash update will ensure that a wild disconnection during a game does not automatically result in the permanent death of the character.

This new mechanism was mentioned on Friday June 16, 2023 during an exchange with the community. In a video posted to YouTube, Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson was joined by several other executives: game director Joe Shely, deputy production manager Tiffany Wat and deputy community director Adam Fletcher.

Since the launch of Diablo IV, there have been many testimonials on the net relating to characters lost due to a loss of connection with Blizzard’s servers. A search of the game’s Reddit subreddit is full of laments, sometimes accompanied by screenshots. Certain characters had however arrived very far in the adventure.

For this, Blizzard will rely on an in-game item: the parchment of escape (or “scroll of escape”). This item, which is in your inventory, allows you to instantly teleport to town when you feel the fight is taking a very bad turn, preventing you from losing your character for good. Death is permanent in extremes.

This parchment, quite rare to obtain, can get you out of a bad situation in open mode as well as in dungeons, or against a boss. It is recommended to have it as a shortcut – for example in the action wheel – in order to get it very quickly if your life is going downhill. The scroll must be activated manually, otherwise its effects will not trigger.

Blizzard plans to automatically activate this escape scroll when the game detects an unexpected disconnection – typically if the Internet box crashes or if a power outage occurs, for example. However, the studio indicates that this change will not take place immediately. He is hinted at for Season 2, which is due to debut much later this year.

Currently, season 1 has not even started yet. It is expected for the beginning of July and should be spread over three months. Then there will be a small interlude, probably a few weeks, before the arrival of the following season. If you have played Diablo IIIthe mechanics of the seasons in Diablo IV will be essentially the same.
