One day after its official launch, it’s time for a first assessment for Diablo IV.

And it seems that all the lights are green for this long-awaited title, which turns out to be the game of all records for a Blizzard in a desperate search for redemption.

Infernal results

Four years after its announcement during BlizzCon 2019, the latest title in the legendary hack’n slash franchise is finally here, within a month of June rich in very big releases. After several convincing beta phases, there was still doubt about its final version.

This is obviously not the case, since, according to Blizzard, Diablo IV is the best-selling game of all time for the publisher over such a period of time. The heroes of Sanctuary responded massively, whether during early access or in the early hours of yesterday. Despite a packed Sanctuary, it even seems that the servers of Diablo IV held the charge, unlike those of Diablo III at its launch.

Since June 2, all players of Diablo IV would have counted the gargantuan number of more than 90 million hours of play. That is about 10,000 years… in the space of five days. The Eternal Conflict pales in comparison.

Diving into hell in search of redemption

Within the premises of Blizzard, one must breathe a deep sigh of relief, even a cry of victory. It must be said that the image of the publisher has been severely tarnished for several years, between cases of harassment, use of predatory economic models and decisions that put the community at odds, in particular to Warcraft III: Reforged Or Overwatch 2.

Hell is said to be paved with good intentions, and there is still a long way to go for Blizzard to regain the trust of its community (if that is still possible?). The launch of Diablo IV is a first good sign in this direction, but it is not a question of resting on its laurels.

As such, a system of seasons will be put in place from July, in particular to flesh out an already well-stocked endgame. And in the longer term still, the publisher is already planning not one, but two extensions for Diablo IV. A Sanctuary for hack’n slash fans, but especially for Blizzard?
