Diablo IV: what will change with the first big patch? We already have good leads

The team behind Diablo IV gathered in front of a fire to tell the community what’s next for Blizzard’s hit game.

Among those present, we notably had Rod Ferguson, franchise manager, and Joe Shelly, game director. They took the opportunity to come back to this infernal new card and what awaits players in the more or less near future.

Hell is patched with good intentions

It’s been almost two weeks now Diablo IV came out and shattered all records for Blizzard. However, the team does not intend to rest on its laurels yet, as evidenced by this stream aimed in particular at telling us what will soon happen to Sanctuary, generally for the better.


After many hotfixes aimed at correcting some urgent problems or tweaking certain elements, a big patch is expected before the launch of season 1, scheduled for mid-July. According to the team, the notes of this one entirely cover ten pages and are particularly interested in the dungeons of the Nightmare, one of the pillars of the endgame of Diablo IVas well as several performance improvements on both PC and consoles.

First, the experience gained within them will be increased. Starting at Torment difficulty, leveling does indeed experience a severe slowdown, so such a change is welcome. Secondly, opening a dungeon using the assigned emblem will now allow its participants to be teleported directly there, instead of having to go there. manu militari. A new emblem can also be activated as soon as the previous dungeon has been completed, in order to limit downtime as much as possible.

Druid players frustrated by the lack of obtaining class-specific unique items will finally be able to take a breather. These should drop more regularly in a future patch. Avid resource collectors will also be pleased to hear that the limit for each will be increased.

The start of a new cycle

In addition to a first major patch of the game, the team also stopped on important modifications to come thereafter. Plans are already in place for patches expected on the occasion of season 2, which will therefore be released between three and four months after the premiere.

In particular, the team mentioned the fact that the gems to be embedded in his equipment will take the opportunity to be moved to the resources section. It will therefore no longer be a question of them taking up an awkward place in an inventory that is already quite limited in space. Resistances to the elements will get a facelift, being currently considered practically useless, especially on the Nightmare and Torment difficulties.

This is of course just the tip of a big hellish iceberg, with Blizzard planning to support Diablo IV as long as possible. So we should expect many more major patches over the seasons. In the longer term, we already know that two extensions are in the pipeline. So there’s still bread (and demon heads) on the board for the game team and the heroes of Sanctuary.
