Dialect star Sina (54) is back with her most personal song to date: “Emma” is the name of the title, the video of which celebrates its premiere today. The song is an ode to Sina’s grandmother Emma, a wine farmer from Salgesch VS. “It was an affair of the heart to send her this musical prayer,” says Sina. “She was a very important caregiver for me, and I still think of her a lot today.”
Grandmother Emma was depressed for years
Emma was born out of wedlock in the early 1900s and grew up with her grandmother. A story that repeats itself: Sina was only six years old when her mother died, after which she also lived under the care of her grandmother Emma. “I was very much influenced by this strong and warm-hearted woman,” says Sina. Just two years after her granddaughter came to see her, Emma became severely depressed and could no longer get out of bed. «I remember how we children brought their sugar cubes with monastery lady Melissa spirit to calm them down. I am convinced it was the demons from her youth who caught up with her. ”
For the song, Sina took a deep look at her family history. “They didn’t talk about depression, they just said that grandmother needs rest. I can only now imagine what Emma had to go through at the end of her life. Melancholy, which I also know about myself, cannot be compared with that, »says the singer. «I have certainly inherited gratitude and belief in good from Emma. That everything will turn out fine in the end. “
Video shoot in the Lori house
The dialect singer shot the video with director Patrick Merz in her home canton of Valais, including in the “Lori-Hiischi”, the Lori House, a residential museum near Zermatt, set up like in grandmother’s time. «It was touching. For the video, I was so to speak immersed in Emma’s youth reality. “
The production is part of Sina’s current “Mondnacht” tour, which will start again on June 10th after the Corona break. “Finally we’re playing small concerts again, I’m really looking forward to it,” says Sina. “The fact that I have this video in my luggage is the icing on the cake.”
And what would your grandmother say about the musical monument? Sina: “I am sure she would be happy, but I would say that it would not have been necessary.”
