Three Swiss are present at the Diamond League meeting in the Norwegian capital on Thursday evening.
A good 10 days ago, Simon Ehammer provided the Swiss highlight in Rabat. The Appenzell decathlete competed against the specialists in the long jump and, with a jump of 8.13 m, was only beaten by the Greek Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou (8.27 m).
But Ehammer can and wants more. “I have a hard time that the specialists have to go downstairs,” said the 22-year-old with regard to his assignment in Oslo on Thursday evening. His goal is to “get as close as possible to 8.45 m.” With this sentence he had set a Swiss long jump record in Götzis as part of the decathlon.
Tentoglou is also at the start in the Norwegian capital. So Ehammer has the chance for direct revenge. From a Swiss point of view, one can also look forward to the appearance of Benjamin Gföhler. The LC Zurich long jumper is aiming for the 8 meter mark. The limit for the EM in August is 8.10 m. Gföhler (PB 8.02) would need an exploit for this.
Hurdle sprinter Joseph required
Jason Joseph, another Swiss, will be on the track. The Basel native started the season late and has only completed one outdoor competition. In Geneva, however, things did not go according to plan for the hurdle sprinter. In 13.60 seconds he not only stayed well above his PB (13.12), but also above the limits for the World Championships in Eugene (13.32) and the European Championships in Munich (13.50).
“I have what it takes. Now I have to see that it comes out », Joseph looks ahead to his appearance in Norway. The competition is impressive: In addition to Devon Allen (USA), who recently just missed the world record, Omar McLeod (JAM) is also at the start, who has already run the 110 m hurdles under 13 seconds.
