The Appenzell jumps to 3rd place at the Bislett Games in the Norwegian capital in wet and cold weather. Jason Joseph shows upward trend.

The Swiss missions

  • Simon Ehammer, Benjamin Gfohler

Simon Ehammer is in top form in the long jump also played at the Diamond League meeting in Oslo. The Appenzeller showed nerves of steel in the 5th attempt and jumped to 7.95 m. The decathlete thus secured participation in the 6th round of the best 3. Ehammer risked everything there again and flew far into the sand pit – but he overstepped it Jump beam in his attempt by 5 centimeters. In the end he had to admit defeat to Olympic champions Miltiadis Tentoglou (GRE, 8.10 m) and Thobias Montler (SWE, 8.05 m) and was annoyed about the missed chance of winning. The second Swiss in the competition, Benjamin Gföhler, did not fare as well. The 28-year-old had to settle for 7.43 m, after the competition he complained that the trajectory was too steep and complained of pain in his thigh.

It’s not Jason Joseph’s season yet. It stayed that way in Oslo. Although the Basel bidder pushed over 110 m hurdles his best time of the season to 13.55 seconds. More than 5th place was not possible because of 3 hurdle touchers. After the race, the 23-year-old was at a loss, but ready to joke: “It wouldn’t be good if I were already running 13.10 seconds.” Befitting Devon Allen, on whom all eyes were on before the start, secured victory. Finally, the American had sniffed the world record a few days ago in New York. But the conditions in Oslo didn’t allow for fast times. The future NFL professional had to settle for his victory with a time of 13.22 seconds.

On the track

In the absence of the Jamaicans and Americans secured André de Grasse victory in the supreme discipline gossamer. The Canadian, who ran that distance to bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, surpassed Reece Prescod (GBR) by a hundredth of a second in 10.05 seconds. Third place went to Akani Simbine (RSA) in 10.09 seconds.

The European record holder Femke Bol sent a clear signal in Oslo. In 52.61 seconds, the Dutchwoman not only set a new meeting record, but downgraded the competition to extras. Anna Ryzhkova (UKR), who was closest to her, lost 2.2 seconds to the 22-year-old.

With local hero Karsten Warholm, the mood at Bislett Stadium would have exploded. But the Norwegian was absent from his home country with a hamstring injury. That was the name of the big figure Alison dos Santos. The Brazilian put the competition in their place in 47.26 seconds. Rasmus Mägi (EST) in second place lost 1.25 seconds.

To thunderous applause from the home crowd flew Jacob Ingebrigtsen over the “dream mile” to victory. The 21-year-old super talent improved the Diamond League record to 3:46.46 minutes over the unofficial distance and thus ensured an atmospheric conclusion to the meeting. However, he missed the world record set by Hicham El Guerrouj in 1999, which the Norwegian wants to one day aim for, by more than 3 seconds.

In the oval

Sandra Perkovic extended her Diamond League record in Oslo. The Croatian threw the discus at 66.82 m in the second attempt and thus secured her 45th victory at this level. Perkovic had to tremble again when Valarie Allman (USA) shot the last shot. But the 27-year-old’s attempt at 65.91 m fell just under a meter short.

The excitement of the evening

Once again in a league of his own Armand Duplantis. The pole vault world record holder won in difficult conditions with 6.02 m and secured victory with a lead of 22 centimeters. Nevertheless, the Swede had to survive a moment of shock. In his first attempt over 5.92 m, a rain protection was forgotten in the puncture box. Duplantis had to abort his attempt in mid-air, but was unharmed. The evening ended on a happy note with the victory.
