Diane Keaton: is the Oscar winner still in front of the camera?

Actress Diane Keaton received the Oscar for her role in a romantic comedy. She has remained true to the genre to this day.

The most popular films by actress Diane Keaton (74) include the romantic comedies "The Devil's Club" (1996) and "What Your Heart Desires" (2003), for which she received her fourth and last Oscar nomination in 2004 . Keaton won her golden boy back in 1978 – also for a romantic comedy – for Woody Allen (84) "Der Stadtneurotiker" (1977). Since then, the 74-year-old has remained true to the genre. But is the Oscar winner still in front of the camera?

Hot dates in front of but not off camera

Diane Keaton is not yet thinking about the acting pension, but can still be found on the big screen and the TV screen. This Monday (July 6th) she can be seen in the romantic comedy "Book Club – The best is yet to come" (Das Erste, 20:15). Alongside her fellow actors Jane Fonda (82), Mary Steenburgen (67) and Candice Bergen (74), Keaton shows what there is to do beyond the age of 60. There is still a lot to offer, especially when it comes to love life. So Keaton's character, the widowed Diane, begins a passionate romance with the pilot Mitchell (Andy GarcĂa, 64).

In private, Diane Keaton's love affairs, however, seem to be dwindling and have been for a while. In 2019, the actress told "InStyle" that men "never" asked her for a date. "Let me clarify that. This is important. I had, I would say, no date in 35 years. No appointments," said Keaton at the time. She has a lot of friends, including male friends, but no dates. To date, the Oscar winner has never been married. She fulfilled her dream of happiness as a mother with two adopted children. And professionally it continues to run smoothly.

New film with Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn

New film projects are already in the pipeline. In the comedy "Love, Weddings and Other Disasters" Keaton plays the main role alongside Jeremy Irons (71, "The affair of Sunny von B."). The German actress Veronica Ferres (55) also played a role in the film. The film is about a group of wedding planners who want to give their customers an unforgettable day. But privately they struggle with their own problems. It is not yet known when the comedy will be released in cinemas in this country.

Another project that is eagerly awaited is "Family Jewels". The comedy reunites Keaton in front of the camera with Bette Midler (74) and Goldie Hawn (74). In "Family Jewels", the three women have to spend Christmas with their children and grandchildren after the man with whom they were all married suddenly dies. Due to the Corona crisis it is not yet clear whether the congenial trio from "The Club of the Devils" (1996) will shoot together this year. A theatrical release is also not yet certain.
