Diana Kruger was awarded the “Golden Eye” at the 19th Zurich Film Festival in September for her successful career.

From Lower Saxony to the top of Hollywood: Diane Kruger’s (47) success story still sounds like a fairy tale. The actress, who was born Diane Heidkrüger in 1976 in Algermissen, Lower Saxony, has had a steep Hollywood career – with courage, diligence and a lot of love for her roles. At this year’s Zurich Film Festival (ZFF), which takes place in Zurich for the 19th time from September 28th to October 8th, Kruger will be honored with the “Golden Eye”. “Diane Kruger is one of the most versatile character actresses in cinema, who always gets completely absorbed in her roles and likes to give her characters depth,” says Christian Jungs, ZFF Artistic Director, explaining the choice.

Breakthrough as Helena in “Troy”

Kruger, who grew up in Hildesheim and began her career as a model, had her international breakthrough as Helena alongside Brad Pitt (59) in Wolfgang Petersen’s (1941-2022) “Troy”. From then on she worked under star directors such as Quentin Tarantino, Robert Zemeckis, Fatih Akin, Neil Jordan, Agnieszka Holland, Benoit Jacquot and Bille August. She was particularly celebrated in 2009 for her portrayal of German actress and spy Bridget von Hammersmark in Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds”. For her leading role as Katja Sekerci in Fatih Akin’s “Out of Nowhere” in 2017, she received the award for best actress at the Cannes Festival.

In the new film “Visions” she plays a pilot

Kruger is looking forward to the “Golden Eye” award in Zurich: “I am proud and honored to receive an award that has been received by impressive personalities before me.” Kruger is also presenting her latest film “Visions” in Zurich. Directed by Frenchman Yann Gozlan, she plays a married pilot whose life is falling apart. Her film partner is Mathieu Kassovitz, known, among other things, from “The Fabulous World of Amélie”.

Past honorees include Eddie Redmayne, Iris Berben, Kristen Stewart, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Malkovich, Helen Hunt and Olivia Colman.
