Diane Kruger: For Fatih Akin, she transforms into Marlene Dietrich

After their success with "Out of nowhere", director Fatih Akin and Diane Kruger work on a series about Marlene Dietrich.

With "Out of nowhere" Fatih Akin (46) and Diane Kruger (43, "The Agent") even outdid Hollywood star Angelina Jolie (45) in the race for the Golden Globe. Brad Pitt's ex (56, "Troy") was nominated for Cambodia in the "Best Foreign Language Film" category for the film "The Long Way of Hope", but lost to the dream team from Germany.

Director Akin is now planning another collaboration with Kruger, for a new series Kruger is to transform into film icon Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992) at the Hamburg location. However, some residents of the Hanseatic city should not be enthusiastic about his project at all.

The Hamburg pages of the weekly newspaper "Die Zeit" report that the creators of the new series on the life of the German screen legend have set their sights on a former parcel center in Altona. Nurhan Sekerci, Akins Hamburg producer, confirms the considerations: "We want to shoot in Hamburg. There are discussions about the halls on Kaltenkircher Platz."

Selection of the location met with resistance

However, some voices speak out against the site as a location. The reason: the area should be used in a variety of ways and remain accessible to the citizens of Hamburg. Hamburg's chief building director Franz-Josef Höing, for example, would like a use that "addresses the neighborhood".

There are currently several studios of photographers on the ground floor of the former parcel hall, which are said to have already been given the prospect of termination. In addition, one of the two parts of the hall has served as the venue for the Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg since 2018. Their organizers would also have to look for an alternative if director Akin got his filming location approved. Diane Kruger could then be in front of the camera as Marlene Dietrich from July 2021.
