Did we just discover Sauron in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power?

A new trailer for the upcoming Lord of the Rings (LOTR) series has been released by Amazon. The actor Anson Boon is highlighted there, as a mysterious character who could well be one of the great villains of the adventure. But is it Sauron?

Never before have we seen so many images of the new series from Amazon Prime Video, expected around the world for years. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerscheduled for September 2, 2022, finally showed the tip of its nose again on July 22, a week after a first trailer which already revealed the ancestors of the Hobbits.

Anson Boon features prominently in new Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power trailer

Amazon Prime Video is a service included in the Amazon Prime subscription, at 49 euros per year. We’ve summarized everything included in this subscription here.

The new trailer that we discover here is three minutes long and rich in events: we see many characters – some of whom are entangled in dirty stories and other wild chases.

However, in the middle of all these protagonists, one man stands out: it is the actor Anson Boon, a young 22-year-old Briton relatively unknown to the general public. We see him for the first time in the grass, turning towards the camera in an enigmatic way, hatred in his eyes.

At the end of the trailer, we also see him blowing on small embers that fly away, still sporting his evil gaze, behind his beautiful piercing eyes.

Nothing clearly says that Anson Boon will be Sauron, but it is certain that the trailer willfully leaves doubts. Moreover, several American media, like Polygon, are now asking the question of the role of the young actor.

Sauron’s face was never shown in Peter Jackson’s trilogy; he is only a menacing eye at the top of a tower, the “ shadow-clad fortress from the former Dark Knight. The only time he is shown in physical form is in a flashback, when Isildur, Elendil’s son, cuts off his finger to remove the Ring. We only see his gigantic armor.
