If Google Stadia is officially dead, this is fortunately not yet the case for its controller, provided you do not miss the mark.

It’s not too late to convert your Stadia controller into a Bluetooth controller. Good prince, Google is also deploying a solution to ensure that all of its 19 buttons are usable thanks to the WebHID driver.

In fond memory of Google Stadia

There is no more redemption for Google’s cloud gaming service, but its controller can still be saved. Holders of the latter thus have until December 31, 2023 to convert it into a Bluetooth controller in order to use it on other platforms.

However, there is still a long way to go before the orphan controller is fully and more widely adopted. On Steam in particular, Valve has not yet added official support for configuring its various buttons yourself.

For the time being, the Stadia controller must therefore be content with being a standard controller in the eyes of the rest of the world. However, efforts are beginning to be made, especially on the side of web games, to take advantage of all of its buttons.

Capture and Assistant buttons saved?

The Stadia controller has the Capture and Assistant buttons, the features of which were only used on Google’s cloud gaming. As it stands, said buttons are completely useless on other platforms.

Google has, however, rolled out a partial solution through the WebHID driver. By a relatively complex maneuver explained in detail in the blog article cited in source below, it is indeed possible to configure all the buttons of the Stadia controller.

Here is in any case a first step to take full advantage of the 19 buttons it offers. However, this is still limited to web-accessible games. Unless additional efforts are made on larger platforms such as Steam, the Capture and Assistant buttons remain inert for the time being.
