Did you know ? The YouTube app has an option to tell you to go to bed

If you’re having trouble unhooking from YouTube at night, the app has an option to tell you to go to bed.

Have you ever explored the options of the mobile apps you use every day? Within them sometimes hide very practical settings, but also very unexpected. This is typically the case with the YouTube app, which is available on Android and iOS. It has a parameter that is used to tell you that it is time to go to bed, when night has fallen.

We can guess the purpose of this feature developed by the YouTube teams: when the hour is late, it may be time to stop scrolling through all the videos on the platform and join Morphée. But, as the setting is disabled by default, and few people dig behind the scenes of the application, it goes unnoticed.

Enable YouTube Alert for Bedtime

To activate this alert, make sure you have your application up to date. You must also log in to your Google / YouTube account to have access to all the settings.

  • Launch the mobile app on your phone;
  • Click on your portrait at the top right;
  • Go to the parameters line;
  • Select general settings;
  • Check “notify me when it’s bedtime”.

You will then have a few options to specify: you can enter personalized times (for example, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.) or ask YouTube to set itself to bedtime mode – if it is activated. In addition, you are free to say if you want to have the alert at zero hour or if you prefer to have it at the end of the current viewing, so as not to be embarrassed.

There are many other tricks regarding the YouTube platform, many of which are used on the web version of the service. You can thus activate a tool for looping video, generate a clip of a specific sequence, create an animated image (gif) and even mobilize the VLC multimedia player to download a YouTube video.
