Did you know ? There is a shortcut to fast forward YouTube videos

A shortcut on YouTube allows you to speed up the playback speed of a video. The method works both on the mobile application and on the website.

Sometimes, a chance manipulation reveals a functionality that we were completely unaware of. This is exactly what happened on March 11. We interacted with the YouTube interface in an unusual way, by doing a long press on a video with the left click. Result: the video suddenly sped up.

Long press or click, and the video speeds up

Here’s how we rediscovered fast forward on YouTube. This works from a computer, but also on the official application – except that instead of using the mouse, you use your finger (the speed is then multiplied by two). By releasing the left click or removing your finger, the speed returns to normal.

This option is not fundamentally new — especially since YouTube has a short dedicated tutorial in its help pages. However, maybe, like us, you didn’t know this shortcut to moving forward. This is an alternative to moving on the progress bar, instead of clicking on it and hoping to get it right.

There is also another method to speed up or slow down the video, and this since 2017. In the settings of a video, you can choose to fast forward continuously (four notches are offered, up to x2). Conversely, we can also decelerate. Three are available, up to x0.25).

Other manipulations may interest Internet users. Examples include playing a YouTube video in a loop, deleting your YouTube history or downloading a YouTube video to PC using VLC. Enough to take advantage of the platform differently. Other advice on YouTube can be found in the pages of Numerama
