While Steam on Windows 7 and 8 is almost over, be aware that it is still possible, however, for customers of both OSs, to take advantage of the free upgrade to Windows 10 and 11.
Windows 7 and 8.1: an upgrade to Windows 11 still possible?
In 2015, the Redmond company offered its customers a brand new iteration of its famous operating system, the much appreciated Windows 10. On this occasion, the manufacturer then offered users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 to switch for free to the most recent version of the OS. If it’s been about three years since Windows 7 is officially no longer supported by Microsoft, be aware that the transition remains indeed still active.
Yes, since 2020, the Redmond firm no longer offers security updates for the seventh iteration of its operating system. But if you are still on Windows 7, and you have an authentic copy, you can now upgrade to Windows 10, but also to… Windows 11!
How it works ?
As our colleagues informed us of Windows Latest, one of their readers recently was able to install Windows 11 on a downloaded USB, all directly from Microsoft’s official website. The latter then equipped himself with a PC running Windows 7, and, using a product code, he surprisingly managed to activate the copy of Windows 11. If, in fact, this is possible, it should be noted, however, that the chances of seeing your old PC running Windows 7 meet the hardware requirements of Windows 11 remain relatively low. Windows 11 does indeed suffer from hardware limitations that prevent it from being installed on older machines.
Anyway, if you have a product key for Windows 7 (the same is true for Windows 8.1), know that you can always upgrade to Windows 10 and Windows 11 for free. he is rather good news, but we have to admit that it is still quite surprising. Microsoft had indeed announced that obtaining a free digital license would only be possible for one year.
