On the anniversary of Johnny Thunders’ death, the Toten Hosen showed a portrait of Campino and Thunders – the last picture there is of the musician.

The New York punk musician Johnny Thunders (1952-1991) died on April 23, 1991 in New Orleans. The guitarist was a member of the New York Dolls group, then he played with the Heartbreakers and was active as a solo artist from 1978. Last Friday, the 30th anniversary of Thunder’s death, the dead pants remembered on Instagram to the musician with a special photo. The picture shows front man Campino (58) together with the US guitarist. “It is the last picture of him that there is,” writes the band in the post.

Thunder was one of the key figures in the early New York punk scene and shaped an entire musical genre, the band continued. “His influence was also immense on the British scene. He was also a great role model for pants, which is why we set a memorial to him in our ‘Word for Sunday’ in 1986,” the post said. In 1991 the band would have had the great honor of recording his song “Born To Lose” with him for our “Learning English” album. “Just two days later he was dead. Johnny, we won’t forget you!”
