Initially scheduled for Sunday December 19, the auction organized to pay off the debts of Argentinian football star Diego Maradona did not succeed despite an extension of ten days and an end recorded on Wednesday, December 29.
In total, 90 lots were offered during these online auctions. And the objects were as diverse as they were varied with ties, caps, shoes, a cigar humidor, swimsuits, works of art but also an apartment, a house offered to his parents or even two BMWs for upgrades. prices ranging from 44 to 800,000 euros.
But, after three hours, and despite the expectations generated, the sale, which brought together nearly 1,500 people around the world, only raised 23,000 euros, while goods with a total value of 1.26 million euros have not found takers.
This is the case of the 700 m2 house with swimming pool that Diego Maradona bought in the 1980s from his parents, in the residential area of Villa Devoto in Buenos Aires, where they lived for more than 30 years, and whose price had set at 797,000 euros, as well as an apartment in the seaside town of Mar del Plata (58,000 euros).
The BMW M4 Coupe (146,000 euros) and the BMW 750 I (200,000 euros), as well as its Hyundai pickup, which had a starting value of 34,000 euros, were also not offered.
DEBTS STILL PRESENT
The most significant lot to be left is a painting by an Argentinian artist representing “El Pibe de Oro” half-player, half-angel, surrounded by the Argentinian flag and entitled “Between Fiorito and the sky”, acquired for the sum of 1.910 euros. A photo of Diego Maradona with former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, with whom he was close, found a buyer in Dubai for 1,420 euros.
The profits from this auction were to be used to pay the debts and various costs, notably inheritance, left by the former Argentine footballer who died on November 25, 2020 at the age of 60.
A period of ten days granted
The company Adrian Mercado, in charge of the organization of the auctions, indicated in a statement that a deadline had been granted “for the next ten working days that any entity, person, company which wishes to make an offer for the vacant lots can do it ”.
According to the same source, the extension was also linked to the number of interested people “who had not managed to register for the sale before the agreed date” in Argentina or internationally.
