The state chancellery of the canton of Jura announced on Monday that proceedings had been opened against a pastoral worker from the Roman Catholic diocese of Basel for alleged sexual coercion and possible sexual acts. The incidents are said to have happened ten years ago.

The accused pastoral worker taught in a post-compulsory school until the end of April and was released from his duties when the responsible office was informed by the church about the initiated procedure, the Catholic Church in Basel wrote in a statement. However, the facts now being investigated under criminal law did not take place in the context of the lessons, but occurred outside of them. It is the presumption of innocence.
