The war in Ukraine forces many to flee. Moderator Dirk Steffens wants to help and has provided “a few rooms”.

The Russian war of aggression in Ukraine continues to hold the world in suspense. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), more than three million people are currently fleeing. More and more Ukrainians are also arriving in Germany. Many people, including some stars, want to help the refugees – including the “Terra X” moderator Dirk Steffens (54).

For Dirk Steffens it’s a “crazy war”

The science journalist takes in refugees. “My partner and I have now made a few rooms available in our house for refugees,” says the 54-year-old in an interview with the news agency spot on news. “I hope we can welcome the first ones to our home soon.”

As a television presenter and conservationist, Dirk Steffens has been traveling the world for years. The documentary filmmaker has also already visited the damaged Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the ghost town of Pripyat, which was evacuated at the time. “That touched me very much and when I had to read that Russian troops had fired on the radiation-contaminated power plant, I was really shocked.” In his eyes it is a “crazy, unjust war”.

TV presenter dedicates himself to important future topics

Dirk Steffens is one of the most well-known conservationists and TV presenters in Germany. The journalist is known to a wide audience primarily through the ZDF format “Terra X”. In his new book “Project Future: Big Questions, Clever Minds, Ideas for a Better Tomorrow” (272 pages, 20 euros), which will be published by Penguin Verlag today (March 21), Steffens discusses ten with scientists important future topics.
