Dirty Dancing: The cult film actually continues

The 1980s cult film "Dirty Dancing" is getting a sequel – and one of the stars from the original will also play again.

The extremely successful US dance romance "Dirty Dancing" (1987) is getting a sequel. What has been rumored to have been read for some time has now been confirmed. This is what "The Wrap" reports, citing Lionsgate managing director Jon Feltheimer. "It will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic film that fans have been waiting for and that has made it the best-selling title in the company's history," said Feltheimer.

Cast and crew

According to this, US actress Jennifer Gray (60), one of the two main actors in the original, will produce the sequel. In addition, she will be seen in a role that has not yet been specified.

The New York filmmaker Jonathan Levine (44) will take a seat in the director's chair. His romantic comedy "Long Shot – Unlikely, but not impossible" (2019) was nominated at the Hollywood Critics Association Awards 2020 in the category "Best Comedy or Best Musical". Nothing is known about the plot of the sequel.

The original film

In the cult film "Dirty Dancing", the young doctor's daughter Frances "Baby" Houseman (Jennifer Gray) and the penniless holiday resort animator and dancer Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) fought for their love. The dance film was just as successful at the box office as the soundtrack in the charts. The single releases "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" by Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes and "She's Like the Wind" by Patrick Swayze feat. Wendy Fraser made it to top positions.

US star Patrick Swayze (1952-2009, "Torches in the Storm") died on September 14, 2009 at the age of only 57 of pancreatic cancer.
