Since Saturday July 8, 2023, Emile’s name has regularly been in the news. Indeed, this little boy aged only two years disappeared without a trace in the hamlet of Haut-Vernet that day, after having escaped the vigilance of his relatives around 5:30 p.m. The public prosecutor of Digne-les-Bains, Rémy Avon, decided to open a judicial investigation on July 18, to try to find the child. Since then, despite the numerous searches carried out by the authorities in the hamlet of Haut-Vernet and its surroundings, little Emile has still not resurfaced. The hope of finding him alive now seems to have completely vanished. On his side, the child’s family has chosen to remain silent since the beginning of this case. Emile’s parents were however made the subject of a public announcement on Monday, August 7. In fact, the latter are civil parties in this case, as confirmed by the Aix-en-Provence prosecutor’s office that day. They will therefore have access to the file through their lawyer.
The silence of the family of the little boy could help the investigators
The silence adopted by the relatives of the little boy since his disappearance raises many questions among their neighbors in Haut-Vernet. However, according to an expert interviewed by The Dispatch Wednesday August 16, 2023, this decision does not seem illogical, and could even help the investigators in their work. “If the media pressure subsides, the perpetrator of a crime may feel more confident and make a small mistake that will betray him. If the investigators are on a track with suspects being wiretapped in particular, the less details will be disclosed by relatives, the more difficult it will be for the murderer to adapt his behavior“, he pointed out. For the moment, the investigations carried out around the disappearance of Emile are continuing. The gendarmes recently summoned several inhabitants of Haut-Vernet for new hearings as part of this investigation. “But for now, there is nothing new”authorities told BFM DICI Monday, August 7, 2023.
