Disappearance of Jean Texier in Charente: a curious competition to try to unravel the mystery

Loïc Duchamp is an unusual investigator who wanted to find the trace of a man who disappeared…159 years ago.

Cold cases have always fascinated the general public but also the most persevering investigators who seek to Solve Years Old Puzzles even several decades. For Loïc Duchamp, the challenge is even more impressive since he started looking for a man who disappeared in 1864 in Charente. This man, Jean Texier, was 34 years old at the time of the disappearance and it is while doing research for another file that Loïc Duchamp came across his story. Intrigued, the genealogist who lives in Ardèche therefore decided to look into the details of this disappearance, as he explains to RMC Crime.

“I found out that one of his sisters reported her disappearance 44 years later. Why wait so long?”. According to the information he has already gathered, Jean Texier was a stonemason, like his father, and had three sisters – one of whom therefore declared his disappearance decades after the fact. For Loïc Duchamp, there are several hypotheses: “He may have disappeared voluntarily. But why? Second hypothesis: we made him disappear”. Since it is particularly difficult to find information on such an old case, the genealogist decided to appeal to your community in a rather original way. On his Facebook page, he organized a contest to attract mystery lovers, and even offered rewards: two free genealogy sessions and participation in his radio show.

A genealogist at the service of the public

Because Loïc Duchamp is very invested in genealogy, to the point of having his own show during which he tells how he found the traces of certain people thanks to his expertise. This enthusiast offers his services to the public in search of roots so that people who wish can learn more about their ancestors or simply find their trace. Concerning Jean Texier, the investigation is all the more difficult as the latter had no wife or child. His sisters, Anne, Marguerite and Marie, however, were able to give some leads. Notice to fans, the contest is still ongoing!
