The child’s parents were even suspected in this affair for a time, that was years ago. The latter are now very discreet even if sometimes they speak up to share their pain and despair. But as revealed by Daily Mail, they had to face a particularly complicated moment: their daughter’s birthday. On May 12, Maddie McCann would have celebrated her 19th birthday and her mother and father decided not to participate in a vigil honoring their child. According to the British newspaper, they secretly escaped to take a “well deserved break” while the trial for sexual offenses of the main suspect, Christian Brueckner, takes place in Germany. The trial of this man tried for five other crimes and sexual offenses, committed between 2000 and 2017 in Portugal, is due to end in June.

Just a few days ago, they must have been shaken by the new revelations regarding the Maddie McCann affair. The Mirror had revealed that Helge Busching, a former friend of Christian Brueckner, informed the authorities in May 2017 that he and the main suspect had had a discussion about the disappearance of the little girl. Christian Brueckner would have notably declared, speaking of Maddie, that “she didn’t scream“.
As a reminder, investigations are continuing and the German prosecutor’s office has not yet indicted Christian Brueckner for the murder of Madeleine McCann.
