While in Germany, the investigation into the disappearance of Maddie McCann continues, a man in the shadows is active in Portugal to advance the investigations.
This is the latest twist in the Maddie McCann affair. On April 21, the Portuguese police appointed Christian Brueckner, main suspect in the McCann caseas arguido. This is the term used, in Portuguese penal language, to designate the indictment of a suspect in a case. “Making Brueckner an ‘arguido’ is an important development in this mysterious investigation. Senior officers who worked the case predict a murder charge could follow“, said the DailyMail.
Greeted by the parents of the missing girl, Kate and Gerry McCann, the decision to designate Brueckner as arguido was taken by Luis Mota Carmo, a man in the shadows who is increasingly talked about. Aged 60, this former Metropolitan Police Service inspector led the Algarvian judicial police from 2009 to 2018 and played a key role during the excavations carried out in Praia Da Luz in 2014. “It’s always worrying when a new prosecutor takes on a really big case, but Luis knows this one like the back of his hand and immediately got to work.says a source to the Daily Mirror. The decision to make Brueckner an ‘arguido’ was above all his own. Luis wants to make sure nothing gets in the way of a charge. But that’s not the only reason he made his decision. Legally, several criteria must be met for someone to be made ‘arguido’, and Brueckner is targeted for several reasons.”
Scientific analyzes soon carried out to confuse Brueckner
According to this same source, the new Portuguese prosecutor would have ordered scientific analyzes in the van that Brueckner drove in the years when he lived in the Algarve. For its part, the German police are also continuing their investigations in the McCann case. According to information from the Daily Mirror, Christian Brueckner is about to be charged across the Rhine: “I got a call from the Germans about a previous depositionrevealed an ex-friend of the suspect. They told me that I should prepare to leave for Germany, possibly towards the end of the summer. They let me know they were hoping to charge him with something, but didn’t give me any specifics..” For the time being, it is not known whether or not this indictment is related to the McCann case.
