He is one of five soldiers who died in the explosion of a booby-trapped tunnel in the north of the territory.
Originally from the town of Odem in the Golan Heights, 38-year-old Matan Meir served as a reserve officer and joined the IDF at the start of the armed conflict.

The series Fauda (chaos, in Arabic), season 1 of which was broadcast in Israel in 2015, has been available on Netflix since 2016. It follows the missions of the Israeli special forces unit Mista’arvim, led by a character named by Doron Kavillio who tracks down a Hamas terrorist, responsible for several attacks.
The interpreter of Doron Kavillio, the actor Lior Raz, who is also the screenwriter of the series, also joined the ranks of the army on October 7.
“Matan, a man with a heart of gold, full of kindness and generosity. I loved you, Matan. You were always available to me at every moment. A man of work and giving out of true love” wrote Lior Raz in a press release, cited by The Times of Israel.
The production team was in the middle of filming the 5th season of the series when the conflict between Israel and Hamas broke out on October 7.
