Disappearance of the Godard family: these clues sown at sea that deepened the mystery

This Sunday March 5, TF1 returned to the case of the disappearance of the Godard family. Former investigators confide in clues that were found at sea and which deepened the mystery.

In September 1999, the French doctor Yves Godard, his wife and their two children suddenly disappeared. Little by little, the investigation for disappearance is transformed in a criminal case. And for good reason, traces of blood are discovered in the family home, located in Calvados. While the parents and the two children would have taken to the sea before disappearing, many clues sown at sea have deepened the mystery about this case. “We were looking everywhere”, indicates a former investigator, interviewed by our colleagues from TF1 for the program Reportages Découverte, broadcast on Sunday March 5. We learn that the sailboat used by the family literally “volatilized”.

Worse still, the investigators will find “a life jacket” far from the coast. But according to the police, there is no chance that the family could have been the victim of a shipwreck. Later, the family’s life raft was also found off the English coast. Empty. The investigators will launch analyses. The results are so disturbing. There is no chance that these clues were sown due to weather conditions. “Is it a treasure hunt? We can ask ourselves that”.

A completely missing family

Since then, the enigma remains intact. But one thing is certain, the family was affected by a tragedy. Indeed, Olivier Quesnot, former mayor of Tilly-sur-Seulles and Thierry Lezeau, director of investigation, retrace the search of the Godard house. “With the gendarmes, we go around the house since we have to witness what they (…) discover. We had the impression that they had just left for the weekend, what. We find a house still alive.” “At the bottom, we will see that the laundry has come out of the washing machine, placed on the drying rack, continues Lezeau. We feel that it is not particularly orderly.”
