On September 2, 1999, Doctor Yves Godard and his two children, Camille, 6, and Marius, 4, disappeared at sea after renting a sailboat at the Saint-Malo marina. A few days later, blood belonging to the doctor’s wife, Marie-France Godard, was discovered in her husband’s combi and in the family home. The suspicions of the investigators quickly turned to the father of the family, giving rise to in-depth research to establish a precise chronology of events…

By consulting Yves Godard’s bank card statement, the investigators discovered in particular that he had made purchases just a few hours before setting sail. “He went to the Intermarché de La Découverte, in Saint-Malo, explains Thierry Lezeau. He’s going to buy a bottle of whiskey, he’s going to buy some little toys, he’s going to buy a carboy of Mir…” Purchases considered strange by the investigators, Godard having planned to spend five days at sea with his children. What was the doctor planning to do with a car wash on a sailboat? Why hadn’t he bought food?
The disappearance of the Godards, a 25-year-old mystery
Twenty-five years later, it is still unknown what really happened to the Godard family, and although he is suspected of having attacked his wife and children, Yves Godard has never been convicted of the murders. . In June 2000, the skull of little Camille was fished out by a shellfish collector in the bay of Saint-Brieuc, off Erquy. Yves Godard’s tibia and femur were also taken out of the water a few years later, in 2006. The bodies of Marius and Marie-France Godard were never found.
