Disappeared without a trace – Alexej Navalny is transferred to an unknown location – News

  • Jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny was taken to an undisclosed location, according to a comrade-in-arms.
  • His lawyer was informed in the prison camp where the opposition politician was previously detained that “there was no such prisoner,” wrote an employee of Navalny on the short message service Telegram.
  • “We don’t know where Alexei is now and to which camp he is being taken.”

“He is in danger,” said Jarmysch his spokeswoman Kira Jarmysch in the YouTube show “Populjarnaja Politika” (German: Popular Politics). He could be killed in the brutal prison system, she said, referring to the poisoning attack on Navalny in August 2020. Navalny, who barely survived, blames Russian President Vladimir Putin for the assassination.

The lawyer was not given any information in the prison camp in Pokrov about where the 46-year-old opposition leader was transferred.

The 45-year-old opposition politician has been serving his eleven-and-a-half-year sentence in a prison camp in Pokrov, 119 km east of Moscow. Despite his imprisonment, Navalny has repeatedly called for protests against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The authorities in Russia describe Navalny and his comrades-in-arms as enemies of the state who wanted to destabilize Russia with the support of the West. Navalny was arrested in January 2021 when he returned home from Germany and convicted of violating the conditions of probation.

Moscow rejected allegations

He collapsed on a domestic Russian flight in August 2020. First he was treated in Russia, then transferred to the Berlin Charite. There, poisoning with a nerve agent was determined. The government in Moscow has denied allegations that Russian authorities tried to kill President Putin’s opponent.

The Reuters news agency initially had no statement from the responsible Russian authorities on the current whereabouts of Navalny.
