Disaster in Lower Austria – a well-known pediatrician crashes with a plane in the field

In a plane accident in Hundsheim in the Bruck ad Leitha district (Lower Austria) on Sunday afternoon, two people – the pilot (74) and a 15-year-old – were seriously injured. It is likely to be a prominent and internationally awarded pediatrician from Austria and his daughter. His single-engine machine had an accident at the start.

The scene of the accident shortly before 2 p.m. was the Spitzerberg airfield. According to police spokesman Stefan Loidl, the pilot, who is one of the best-known pediatricians in Austria, suffered serious injuries. The 74-year-old was flown from “Christophorus 9” to the University Hospital in St. Pölten. “Christophorus 3” transported the girl to the state hospital in Wiener Neustadt. She is said to be the doctor’s daughter and suffered head injuries. Concerns in advance The plane, a PA-18, is likely to have drilled steeply into a field after take-off. In aviation circles, the doctor who owned the machine is considered a controversial pilot. The man’s acquaintances report to the “Krone” that there have always been concerns about the doctor’s way of flying. For example, procedures are said to have often not been followed by the older pilot. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing. According to ÖAMTC spokesman Heimo Gülcher, the two emergency helicopters were deployed alongside numerous other rescue workers. According to Loidl, Austro Control was informed and will support the surveys to clarify the cause of the accident.
