Shortly before their federal congress, the leaders of the Green Youth made serious accusations against their parent party. The traffic light coalition made serious mistakes on the issues of climate and migration. This leads to massive discontent within their own ranks.

The Green Youth expresses clear criticism of the party’s course on the issues of climate protection and migration. “The planet is burning, people live in poverty in rich Germany. We expect more from the Greens in the fight against climate change and for social justice,” demanded the leader of the Green Youth, Sarah-Lee Heinrich, in the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”.

The fact that the coalition has still not agreed on easing the burden on citizens through climate money is a “serious mistake,” Heinrich continued. Climate money should not “become the next hollowed-out traffic light project.” The tough debates about the heating law have already shown that without effective social cushioning there will be “no acceptance for climate policy projects”.

The youth organization is also calling for the Greens to correct course in asylum policy. “I think the Greens’ approval of the EU asylum reform is wrong,” said co-chair Timon Dzienus in the “SZ”. This means a worsening of the humanitarian situation at the EU’s external borders. “It will not solve any problem and will only create more suffering and chaos,” warned Dzienus. “People who actually need protection are being disenfranchised little by little.”

The leadership of the Green Youth urgently warned their own party of growing discontent within their own ranks. “Dissatisfaction with the course of the ‘traffic light’ is growing among the party base, but also among MPs and officials,” said Dzienus. The Green Youth meets for three days at the weekend for their federal congress. A new leadership duo will also be elected there.
