Even if Sony has not yet confirmed the arrival of Discord voice chat on Playstation 5, this long-awaited feature by players could land sooner than expected. Many screenshots of the latest Discord app beta revealed a new “Join Voice on Playstation” button.
As you may know, starting mid-September 2022, Xbox gamers can use Discord on their console to chat with their friends, whether they’re on Xbox or PC. In fact, a PC player on Halo Infinite can now join and chat with a partner on Xbox Series X via the Discord app.
On Playstation, on the other hand, players are still waiting for this feature. And yet, the announcement of the partnership between Sony and Discord is not new: May 2021. For now, it is only possible to link your Playstation account to your Discord account. This allows your friends to follow your latest news, such as games you have recently played, whether you are online on local oe PSN or on Discord, etc.
But as said above, still no voice chat. And it’s a shame, at a time when cross-platform games are multiplying. We think in particular of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 which arrives on October 28, 2022 and which will allow PC, Xbox and Playstation players to play multiplayer together.
Discord voice chat soon available on PS5?
However, the wait may soon be over. Indeed, many users have shared screenshots of the latest beta version of the Discord app on social networks. In some images, you can see thehas the presence of a new button “Join Voice on Playstation” Where “Join voice on Playstation” right next to the button dedicated to the same command for Xbox.
In addition, this update also includes another feature requested by players: the ability to stream your session on Discord. Obviously, it will be possible to do this on PS5 as on PS4. Beware, however, the screenshots suggest that Discord voice chat won’t be available on Sony’s old console…
Either way, hopefully Discord voice chat will be available to everyone soon. As a reminder, insider and journalist Tom Henderson announced a rollout of the feature in March 2023 with PS5 firmware 7.0. Who knows, maybe voice chat will be here sooner than expected?
