Discord voice chat is coming to Xbox consoles

The announcement effects of one day are not necessarily the truths of the next day. Discord has just given us an edifying illustration of this: while the company proudly announced, in May 2021, a partnership with Sony aimed at bringing its very popular voicemail application to PlayStation 4 and 5, it was ultimately the Xbox consoles that will welcome him first.

The new system feature inviting you to join a Discord voice channel directly from your console is already rolling out for members of the Xbox Insiders program, and will soon be available for all Xbox One and Series X/S owners. .

It should be noted that this is not strictly speaking a native Discord application on Xbox. The user must install the Discord and Xbox applications on his smartphone, and use the first to join a voice chat. He is then given the option to transfer this conversation to his Xbox. This solution has the advantage of integrating perfectly into the usual audio interface of the console, with all the usual functionalities, in particular the adjustment of the balance between the chat and the sound of the game.

On the PlayStation side, however, we are still waiting for news of the integration. For the record, the May 2021 announcement promised implementation at the beginning of 2022 – a missed opportunity, therefore.
