Discount of 15 centimes per liter on fuels: all the answers to your questions

How to benefit from it? From when ? Le Figaro provides an update on this measure intended to deal with soaring prices at the pump.

A gesture for the wallet of the French, in the midst of soaring prices at the pump. From April 1, a discount of 15 cents per liter on fuel will be granted at all service stations for four months, Jean Castex announced on Saturday at Parisian.

How to get it? Why do you have to wait nearly three weeks to take advantage of this measure? Le Figaro make the point.

How to benefit from the discount?

Do not panic if you do not see the discount of 15 cents per liter on the prices displayed in stations. It will only be visible at the checkout or at the pump, when paying. “The idea is that the normal prices are displayed there, and that you can see, when you have finished your fill, on your ticket, how much it should have cost you and how much you will actually pay, so that you can see this effortof the government, said Minister of Ecological Transition Barbara Pompili this Monday morning on RTL. For example, “for every 60 liters you will save 9 euros“said Jean Castex.

Why only from April 1?

Announced on Saturday, the measure will not come into effect until April 1. Why such a delay? Because “you have to make a decree for that, it takes a little time“, justified Barbara Pompili. And above all, discussions with distributors, suppliers or even oil companies are necessary, according to the government, so that the measure covers all of the approximately 11,000 service stations in the territory. “I am thinking in particular of the small rural service stations, it will be more difficult for her than for the large distributors or the large tankers who are on the highway“, underlined Bruno Le Maire on LCI this Monday morning. The measure will be effective until July 31.

What fuels are involved?

All fuels containing crude are concerned“, specified Matignon to the Parisian. Concretely, the discount will therefore be applied to diesel, unleaded 95 (SP95) and unleaded 98 (SP98), which are all currently reaching records. Superethanol-E85 is therefore excluded, more than half the price of traditional fuels at the pump (0.80 euro per liter against more than 2 euros for SP-95 and diesel).

Who can benefit ?

This discount will benefit all French people, both individuals and professionals. They will be entitledfarmers, craftsmen, construction, taxis, truckers, everyone… Fishermen too“, enumerated Jean Castex in The Parisian. Professionals who are exempt from taxes and businesses are therefore also affected.

What other private initiatives?

Alongside this government discount, Jean Castex called on oil companies and distributors to “also make an effort on their side» and to «make an additional gesture“. Since February 14, TotalEnergies has already applied a discount of 10 centimes per liter in the group’s 1,150 stations in rural areas. A measure that should last three months. On Twitter on Saturday, TotalEnergies indicated that this “discount of 10 cents per liter always applies and is cumulativeto the government measure.

And after July 31?

The rebate announced by the executive is “an emergency measure“, which has no vocation “to last“, underlined Barbara Pompili on RTL. It should therefore not be extended after July 31. It must then be replaced by a device “more durable […]which will affect those who are the most dependent, i.e. in particular heavy riders who are forced to use their vehicle to work or go to work“said the Minister. “We are working on this device which would be triggered in an emergency when fuel prices soar“, specified Bruno Le Maire, explaining that he would be targeted “on the big rollers, who have modest incomes […] and who have no choice but to drive to work“.

Who will foot the bill?

The measure will costjust over 2 billion euros“said Jean Castex. A cost that will be borne by the State, even if it will be the distributors who will apply it. “The state will reimburse themThen, said the Prime Minister, without giving details of the repayment deadlines. A crucial element for independent gas station attendants, who will see the measure weigh on their cash flow.
