It’s done ! Sony and Honda have finally formalized their new brand of electric car. Welcome to AFEELA.

The two groups have unveiled a new concept, but the marketing is not planned before 2025, or even 2026.

Sony + Honda = AFEELA

A few months ago, the giants Sony and Honda created the Sony Honda Mobility joint venture, capitalized at 10 billion yen and owned equally by the two groups. After a first surprising concept, called Vision S and presented at CES 2020, the two groups are taking advantage of this 2023 edition to formalize the name of their new joint brand: AFEELA.

Better still, Sony and Honda have decided to unveil a new prototype, even more advanced than the one presented three years ago. This one, badged AFEELA therefore, does not have an official name, but tends to evoke what the first vehicle of the group will look like.

The first model not before 2025

In terms of looks, this first concept from the AFEELA era allows you to discover a sedan that is both luxurious and connected. Some will find a little Lucid Air side to it, and the whole thing is very refined, even quite “classic” in the end. AFEELA also announces a wheelbase of 3 meters, which suggests an interior that is spacious and comfortable to say the least.

This first AFEELA concept also has some singularities, with in particular a small mobile spoiler and automatic opening doors. This modern and connected side is symbolized on board by the presence of the Snadragon Digital Chassis software solution. The visual interface will be provided by the Unreal Engine.

Of course, this first concept signed AFEELA is also full in terms of entertainment and safety, with a gigantic digital interface on board, not to mention two small screens on either side as mirrors (like on the Honda-e , yes). Added to this are no less than 45 sensors, 5 radars and a total of 21 cameras distributed between the interior and exterior to ensure (among other things) level 3 autonomous driving. In addition, the AFEELA concept has been presented with a Yoke-type steering wheel, as on the new Tesla Model S and Model X.

A promising concept therefore, even if it will still be necessary to be patient to place an order. Honda and Sony hope to be able to launch pre-orders at the beginning of 2025, for marketing a little later in the year, or even early 2026. At the same time as the PlayStation 6…?
