The actress Laura Dern, known in particular for her role in “Jurassic Park”, took her first steps in Hollywood at the age of 6 in a Martin Scorsese film.
Revealed at the end of the 80s by the filmmaker David Lynch who directed her four times, the American actress Laura Dern is still a Hollywood star famous throughout the world today.
Mainly known to the general public thanks to the role of paleobotanist Ellie Sattler in Steven Spielberg’s illustrious Jurassic Park (she will also return to her character twice subsequently), the talented actress who likes to vary registers also played in Un perfect world by Clint Eastwood and more recently in Marriage Story, delivering a remarkable performance which earned him the Oscar for best supporting role in 2020.
Before Isla Nublar
But long before venturing into the jungles of Isla Nublar and experiencing the fame that she enjoys today, despite the fact that both of her parents (Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd) were actors before her, Laura Dern took his first steps in Hollywood with much more modest roles.
Just 50 years ago, when she was only 6, the future actress discovered the world of cinema by playing a simple little girl, seated at the counter of a drive-in and enjoying an ice cream without pronouncing the slightest word. If the role in question was very secondary, the project was much less so, because it was the comedy-drama Alice Is Not Here Anymore, directed by none other than Martin Scorsese.
As she recounted many years later on the set of the show Live Kelly and MarkLaura Dern inherited the job by going to see her mother, who starred in the film.

“I ate 19 ice cream cones.”
“I was visiting my mother during the summer holidays, she was in Alice Is No Longer, the Martin Scorsese film. And I think he kindly gave me something to do, because I I was probably sitting in a corner.”confided Laura Dern.
“They had to do 19 takes, so I ate 19 ice cream cones. (…) [Scorsese] didn’t know I was listening enthusiastically but I heard him turn to my mother and say, ‘She ate 19 ice cream cones without getting sick. This girl is going to be an actress.'”
Delighted with this first experience and to have been able, at such a young age, to see Kris Kristofferson and Ellen Burstyn exchange a kiss under the direction of the great Martin Scorsese, Laura Dern then had to wait a few years before returning to a film set .
In 1981, we were able to see her again in the casting of the musical film Ladies and Gentlemen, five years before she landed one of the leading roles in David Lynch’s famous Blue Velvet.
