That's it Disney + has arrived in our homes and we are more than happy to be able to enjoy the programs of the streaming platform. A while ago, we talked to you about films and series that we will have the opportunity to review thanks to Disney +. But what should not be forgotten is that the platform will also offer many original, new and unpublished programs. We spotted Guide dog in the making and we had a big crush. This series immerses us behind the scenes of guide dog training.

From the host family …

Guide dog in the making follows the evolution of six dogs: Paco, Pacino, Tulane, Raffi, Amara and Tartan. We see them above all grow and evolve in host families. It is the first step in the rest of their lives. For some time, they adapt to human presence. The main educational mission of these foster families is simple: to teach them good manners, those of a companion dog like the others. A follow-up is done throughout their evolution within these families but also a very strong bond is created. This is undoubtedly the strength of this fascinating documentary series. Guide dog in the making highlights what the host families bring to these dogs but also what they themselves bring to these families. So when the time comes to give them the test in the hope of having them integrate training into formal training, the emotion is at its height. Then comes the moment of separation. If these families are aware that these dogs do not belong to them, their relationship with them is sacred.

This is why this documentary series is so successful. We are attached to these dogs and to the host families who have tried to give all their love to make them the best guide dogs there are. An elegant way of reminding us how pets are individuals for us.

… upon obtaining the certificate

Then there is a whole process that follows before obtaining the certificate. The first step that leads to formal training is just the start of the rest of their lives. And, this is undoubtedly what accounts for the emotional impact that this implies for these doggies. This is a big change in their lives and it can put significant pressure on them. Once in the company of the trainers, they wonder who their new masters are. It is therefore the mission of the trainers to build their confidence. Once again, a strong bond is created between the dogs and their new contacts.

Guide dogs in the process of becoming will thus face numerous stages of adaptation. These tests will assess their ability to give confidence to a blind or partially sighted person in everyday life. A challenge that should not be overlooked, but each dog and each trainer will give all their energy to achieve it. From the medical examination to the indoor exercises without forgetting the outdoor walks in order to get them used to the environment of a city to finally pass them the famous Blind fost test … This process is long but necessary to access future program steps.

The importance of guide dogs in the daily lives of blind and partially sighted people

The documentary series Guide dog in the making rightly reminds that the security of an individual is between the paws of these dogs. The dogs' ability to concentrate is therefore the main concern of trainers during their training.

The concept of guide dogs appeared in the 1940s. Now, each year, in the United States, 850 blind and partially sighted people apply to be Guide Dog clients. All visually impaired and blind people in the United States and Canada can apply. The need to train dogs is therefore crucial because being able to trust the guide dog, as a blind person, is often considered the key to independence. The series is available on Disney + and sheds light on these dogs so useful in the daily lives of millions of people around the world. A must see if you are passionate about animals and you start to see the happiness that dogs bring!
