Screenshots of new, as yet unannounced software from Microsoft have just been posted on Twitter.

Is Microsoft preparing a surprise for the launch of Windows 11 22H2? One would think so after the publication by the leaker WalkingCat of these screenshots of a preview version.

Sleek software for creating web and social media illustrations

This software, unknown until then, would be called Designer, and as its name suggests, it would allow users to easily create visuals, presentations and illustrations from their Windows PC.

The interface, particularly refined, does not allow for the moment to know much more about all the functionalities planned by Microsoft.

We can just see, through the first introductory panels, that the application will offer turnkey models to produce visuals adapted to social networks. You can see in particular models adapted to Facebook, a sharing button as well as the possibility of linking the software to your LinkedIn account, Microsoft’s professional social network.

Is Microsoft looking to compete with the Canva app?

Microsoft had used the Designer brand in the past. It was in 2015, with a feature then integrated into PowerPoint 2016. At the time, it made it easy to create visuals within the presentation software itself.

It is not yet clear whether Microsoft wants to offer with Designer an increased and autonomous version of its functionality, or offer a much more complete software, both for individuals and professionals who constitute its main commercial target.

Designer could also be looking to create a direct competitor to the hugely popular Canva app, which also lets you create illustrations for the web and social media. The two interfaces have many points in common.

Last hypothesis, Microsoft could revise the design of the Publisher application, which has not received much attention for several years.

Anyway, the work seems well advanced, and Microsoft could give more information about it at the Build conference which starts on May 24.
