discover the most terrifying horror movies

It was in a project called Science of Scare that a study identified the creepiest pop culture horror films. For this, the researchers looked at the heart rate of spectators.

Horror movies are your passion, but also your worst nightmare? If you're looking for the thrills, then a study, The science of scare, should shed some light on what is THE creepiest horror movie ever. On October 12, 2020, a study was published on the site Broadbandchoices on the subject. 50 people agreed to watch 100 hours of horror movies… Just that! In total, this equates to 35 films in which jump scare and evil spirits traumatized study participants.

The researchers ranked the scariest films by paying attention to the heart rates of the people who binged all these feature films. So which one is the scariest? It seems like Sinister, released in 2012 and directed by Scott Derrickson, the big winner of this study. Indeed, during the screening of the film, the audience's heart rate increased by 32%. On average, spectators went from 65 to 86 beats per minute. The scariest streak in the film actually recorded 131 beats per minute … That's no small feat! We let you, of course, watch Sinister to determine the most unbearable scene yourself.

In general, there are a lot of classics of the genre in this list. The study was based on the heart rate of the brave people who tried it, so the result was mostly jump scare, of course. In any case, of Halloween, at Chainsaw Massacre Passing by The exorcist or The Shinning … You will be served! This list might give you some ideas for a special Halloween night.
