Alfa Romeo has finally lifted the veil on its new compact SUV, the Alfa Milano. Intended to make people forget their Giulietta and the Mito, it is the manufacturer’s first all-electric vehicle and will be available in four versions.

This is a first for the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo. By presenting its new compact SUV (4.17 meters) Milano, the brand is not only reconnecting with the B segment, but is also inaugurating its first 100% electric car.

Platform cousin of the Fiat 600e and other Jeep Avenger, the Milano will be offered in a 48 V microhybrid configuration with 2 and 4 wheel drive, but also in an all-electric version of 156 and 240 horsepower. This latest version will also foreshadow what Abarth will offer on its next Abarth 600e.

Italian style

The Alfa Romeo Milano comes between the Peugeot e-2008 (4.31 meters) and the Jeep Avenger (4.09 meters) with its 4.17 meters. However, if the wheelbase is as measured as the latter, with 2.56 meters, it offers 400 liters of trunk space, compared to 380 liters for the Avenger. These figures are important, since Alfa wants to position its Milano as a versatile urban SUV capable of going on weekends or going shopping to the supermarket. These purchases will be made in style elsewhere, because the design of the Milano, from the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo located in Turin, brings a new interpretation of the traditional style of Alfa Romeo, while forging a marked identity for the model.

The front end is dominated by the famous Scudetto, Alfa Romeo’s signature triangular grille, available in two styles: Leggenda, which celebrates the brand’s historical heritage, and Progresso, which offers a more modern vision.

The front fascia is also distinguished by a large air duct and the presence of vertical scoops on each side, giving the Milano an imposing and athletic appearance.

As for lighting, the Milano introduces an innovative two-level headlight layout, with daytime running lights made up of three segments, overlooking adaptive headlights equipped with Full LED Matrix technology.

The rear design of the vehicle takes up the “coda trunca” stylistic concept of the Alfas of the 1950s by integrating a lacquered strip which connects the inclined rear window, while the rear lights are made up of three square modules.

The Milano’s profile features reduced overhangs and clean lines that highlight the fenders, as well as hidden rear door handles, which reinforce its coupe appearance. The rims, available in sizes from 18 to 20 inches, complete the dynamic aesthetic of this compact SUV.

A sporty and techy interior

Inside the Alfa Milano, the manufacturer plays the chic card with some finishing details such as the illuminated turbine air vents of the biscione, but also modernity, with a 12.3-inch instrumentation screen integrating into a counter cap that recalls the time of analog hands.

To the right of this screen, we will find the 10.25-inch central touch screen, slightly oriented towards the driver, which not only offers access to the brand’s multimedia universe, but above all, and this is a first for Stellantis , which features the EV Route. This “smart” planner is supposed to integrate charging stops on the route and adapts to driving style. Also note that Milano integrates ChatGPT 3.5 to answer certain questions. Finally, Alfa does not give in to the all-touch trend, with manual air conditioning controls.

Curo Sportivo

Based on the common Stellantis CMP platform, which already equips some old acquaintances such as the Peugeot e-2008 or the new Fiat 600e, the Alfa Romeo Milano offers a double electric offer which relies on one side on a 156 horsepower engine , and on the other, on a new offer developing 240 horsepower. In both cases, the engine is powered by the 54 kWh battery, which promises 410 kilometers in the WLTP combined cycle.

If the 156 horsepower powertrain and 54 kWh battery is known, it is a first for the 240 horsepower version, and above all, it foreshadows what enthusiasts are impatiently awaiting on the future Abarth 600e.

In addition, good news for enthusiasts, the Veloce version, which therefore includes this more powerful engine, is lowered by 25 millimeters, benefits from specific calibration of the anti-roll bars, 4-piston calipers hidden in 20-inch wheels, and above all, a Torsen differential which will improve the handling and agility of the car. Not to spoil anything, Alfa announces that it has kept the weight below 1,600 kilos, at 1,545 kilos.

Disappointment, however, regarding the charging time: the power is only 100 kW, but we expected that, given the battery used. So, typically, you will have to wait at least 30 minutes to go from 10 to 80% charge.

For those who don’t want to bother with the recharging game, Alfa also had the good idea of offering a 48 V hybrid version of 136 horsepower which allows lower consumption and driving all-electric at very low speed. speed, but above all to offer this version in 2 and 4 wheel drive, called Q4 to increase safety.

Prices for the Alfa Romeo Milano

Available to order from April 25 in a launch edition which includes a Wallbox, the Alfa Romeo Milano costs 40,500 euros in all-electric form and 31,000 euros in 48 V hybrid version.
