Couples or single people who wish to adopt a child are entitled to the adoption grant. Financial aid paid by the CAF or the MSA, which thanks to the purchasing power law will be increased by 4%. Who can benefit ? What are the conditions for receiving it? We take stock.

You have a plan toadopt a child within your family? You may not know it but you can claim, under certain conditions, financial help to prepare for the arrival of a new child and to meet the many expenses related to his education. In fact, couples or single people who adopt can benefit, thanks to the Young Child Care Benefit (Paje), from adoption bonus.

This aid is paid by the Caisse d’Allocation Familiale (CAF) or the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA) to parents who adopt a child under 20. The premium is paid in one go, and usually no later than the second month following the baby’s arrival. This year, like most family allowances, the adoption bonus will be increased by 4%. An increase provided for by the purchasing power law, voted at first reading in the National Assembly on Friday July 22. From now on, the amount of aid is €2,007.91compared to €1,930.68 previously.

Adoption bonus: who can benefit from it?

The adoption bonus, not everyone can collect it. To qualify, you must meet certain conditions:

  • Be a recipient or meet the general conditions for entitlement to family benefits;
  • Adopt or foster a child under the age of 20 with a view to adopting;
  • Have had recourse to the child welfare service, or to an authorized French organization for adoption, or to a competent foreign authority;
  • Do not exceed resource caps.


Aid is granted to people whose declared resources do not exceed a certain ceiling. For the year 2022, it is the category net income of 2020 which is taken into account.

Adoption premium: the steps to take

Unlike the birth bonus, the steps to obtain the adoption grant are a bit more complex. It depends on whether the adopted child is French, European or of foreign origin. First, you must submit your request to your CAF by post and send the requested supporting documents.

If the child is adopted in Francesimply attach the certificate from the child welfare services or another authorized body and provide a copy of the extract from the minutes of the deliberation of the Family Council of the pupils of the ‘State.

If the cherub is adopted in Europea copy of your approval for adoption, a copy of the foreign decision and a photocopy of the child’s identity document issued by the French authorities will be requested.

If the child is adopted abroad, out of Europeyou must provide a copy of your approval, a copy of the foreign decision attesting to the adoption or placement, and a photocopy of the child’s passport or any other official document from the country of origin with the visa granted by the International Adoption Mission (MAI).
