Here comes a new open source emulator usable in a Web browser and powered via the cloud: WebRcade.

In addition to its ease of use, this new platform also has the advantage of working on a multitude of devices such as smartphones, tablets or Xbox Series X|S consoles, as well as on various operating systems such as Windows, MacOS, iOS and many others.

Between modernity and retrogaming

Contrary to what one might think, WebRcade is not a streaming platform. It offers to play many retro games using a cloud storage system such as DropBox. It should of course be remembered that emulating a game without owning the original copy is considered piracy and punishable as such by law.

Currently, WebRcade mainly supports consoles up to 32-bits such as Atari 2600, NES, Super Nintendo, Game Boy (original, Color and Advance), SEGA SG-1000, Master System, Megadrive, Game Gear or even engines like Classic Doom. Eventually, the platform plans to support more advanced consoles like the legendary Nintendo 64, among others.

WebRcade thus makes it possible, by offering a vast catalog of games via a cloud browser, to be able to enjoy them on many devices other than PC under Windows or MacOS. Currently, this platform can indeed be used on Xbox Series X|S consoles, as well as iPhones and iPads. The controller support is of course included.

A completely free platform

Another brand advantage of WebRcade: its completely open source code. While it is in principle possible to use the platform in its simplest device via the source link below, it is recommended to create your own feed in order to make the most of the service.

The steps to follow to achieve this are fully explained (unfortunately only in English) on the site via various tutorials, in order to guide passionate retrogamers to make the most of the WebRcade experience.

In addition to access to a huge catalog of retro games in impeccable quality and fluidity, WebRcade also allows access to games created by the community and stored on DropBox or Internet Archive.
