Discussion between Biden and Lula, guest at the White House in early February

WASHINGTON, Jan 9 (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden spoke by phone on Monday with his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, a discussion during which the two leaders discussed the riots that occurred the day before against places of power in Brasilia, the White House said.

Joe Biden invited Lula to the White House in early February, the US presidency also announced.

The US president on Sunday denounced the invasion of the Supreme Court, Congress and the presidential palace in Brasilia by supporters of the far-right former president Jair Bolsonaro, images of chaos reminiscent of those of January 6, 2021 in Washington when pro-Donald Trump had attacked the US Capitol.
