Dishwasher alert: This is what it looks like if you never clean the filter

Gross surprise
This is what happens when you never clean your dishwasher filter

Dishwashers make life easier – but they also need regular care themselves

More

Every dishwasher has a filter that needs to be cleaned regularly. In the video you can see what it looks like when this is forgotten for too long.

Dishwashers are great! It doesn’t matter whether you’re single or have a large family: almost no one who has bought a dishwasher ever wants to go back to washing dishes by hand. But many do not know that the devices below have a filter that needs to be checked regularly. Disgusted users on TikTok are now showing how bad it can get if the filter is ignored for too long.

What does a dishwasher need apart from cleaning tabs or powder?

Even if modern dishwasher tabs advertise that they are equipped with all accessories: your machine will thank you if you always make sure that there is enough rinse aid. Because depending on the brand, the “all inclusive” tabs are often not as balanced as you think. Rinse aid is especially important to avoid unsightly stains after washing. Fortunately, most dishwashers use a symbol to indicate when the rinse aid needs to be refilled.

Heavy salting

The salt also has to be refilled regularly – even with modern tabs. This is very important, especially in federal states with very hard drinking water, in order to prevent deposits inside the machine. Otherwise, in the long term, this can damage your dishwasher and wear out the heating elements. A repair quickly becomes expensive – but fortunately most dishwashers also indicate here with a signal on the control panel that the salt urgently needs to be refilled.

Rinse for the dishwasher?

Of course, there are also special dishwasher cleaners that you can run in the dishwasher without dishes. Whether these are regularly necessary depends heavily on your machine and whether you have the feeling that it accumulates dirt over time despite the salt and rinse aid. A hygienic deep cleaning is also possible with citric acid or vinegar.

And the filter?

The filter, which probably most of us don’t really keep an eye on, should actually be cleaned every four weeks if possible. Fortunately, this is usually done quickly by briefly holding it under running water. But if you just forget the filter … oh, it’s best to look directly at the video above, which unfortunately you have to expect.
