Dishwasher video: This is what it looks like if you do not clean the filter

Every dishwasher has a filter that must be cleaned regularly. In the video you can see what it looks like if it is forgotten for too long.

Dishwashers are great! Regardless of whether you are single or a large family: Almost no one who has provided a dishwasher ever wants to go back to washing up by hand. But many don't know that the devices below have a filter that needs to be checked regularly. Disgusted users on TikTok now show how bad it can get if the filter is ignored for too long.

What does a dishwasher need, apart from cleaning tabs or powder?

Even if modern dishwasher tabs advertise that they are equipped with all accessories: your machine will thank you if you still make sure that enough rinse aid is refilled. Because depending on the brand, the "all inclusive" tabs are often not as balanced as you think. Rinse aid is especially important to avoid unsightly stains after rinsing. Fortunately, most dishwashers show a symbol when the rinse aid should be refilled.

Strong salt

The salt must also be refilled regularly – even with modern tabs. This is very important, especially in federal states with very hard drinking water, to prevent deposits inside the machine. In the long term, this can otherwise destroy your dishwasher and wear out the heating elements. Repairs can quickly become expensive – but luckily most dishwashers use a signal on the control panel to indicate that the salt needs to be refilled urgently.

Rinse for the dishwasher?

Of course there are also special dishwasher cleaners that you can run in the dishwasher without dishes. Whether these are necessary regularly depends heavily on your machine, and whether you feel that, despite salt and rinse aid, it will accumulate dirt over time. Hygienic deep cleaning is also possible with citric acid or vinegar.

And the filter?

The filter, which most of us probably don't really have an eye on, should actually be cleaned every four weeks if possible. Fortunately, this is usually done quickly by holding it briefly under running water. If you just forget the filter … oh, look at the top of the video, which you have to reckon with.
