Stiftung Warentest examined dishwashing detergents. But many products, including well-known brands, cannot remove stubborn dirt from dishes. We show which cheap products are convincing and which brands cannot keep the clean promise.
Even if there are dishwashers in many kitchens – you still need washing-up liquid to remove stubborn dirt on dishes. Stiftung Warentest tested 25 products – and the classic products failed.
Test winners are the concentrates, which contain less water and more fat-dissolving surfactants than conventional products. They are often particularly economical and have the best rinsing performance, according to the product testers.
Rinsing concentrates can often be recognized in the trade by the suffix “Ultra” and they are often available in bottles with 450 to 500 milliliters. Stiftung Warentest recommends a teaspoon of concentrate for around five liters of flushing water. Any more would unnecessarily pollute the waste water and thus the environment.
Detergent concentrate: cheap test winner
Of the ten concentrates tested, one product scored “very good” and eight other products scored “good”. The test winners include:
- prilPower Gel Ultra Plus 5+ – Grade 1.5
- Aldi Alio Ultra Classic 5 in 1 – Score 1.8
- dm Denkmit Ultra Multi-Power 5 – Grade 1.9
- Lidl W5 Ultra Power – Grade 1.9
- penny Blik Power Concentrate 5 in 1 Ocean – Grade 2.0
- rewe Yes Ultra Power 5 in 1 – Grade 2.0
- Edeka Good & Cheap Ultra Concentrate – Grade 2.2
- fairy – Grade 2.2
- Net brand discount Priva Ultra Power – Grade 2.2
Classic products cannot convince
“No classic product can keep up with them,” writes the magazine “test” (issue 6/2022). After all, the grade “satisfactory” is awarded three times to classic washing-up liquid. All other dishwashing detergents, including the eco and sensitive products, are rated “sufficient”. A product, the Edeka Gut & Billig Classic with a fresh apple scent, fails with the rating “poor”.
The hand dishwashing detergents were tested on fresh oil mixtures, leftovers from gratinated minced meat and dried pasta, as well as encrusted oatmeal.
