The investigations into the death of the woman found dismembered at the start of the week in the Parisian park of Buttes-Chaumont were entrusted to an investigating judge on Friday, AFP learned on Friday from the Paris prosecutor’s office. The prosecution has opened a judicial investigation for murder, attack on the integrity of a corpse and concealment of a corpse. Monday, around 2:30 p.m., municipal parks and gardens officers had discovered, under a pile of green waste in Buttes-Chaumont, a plastic bag containing the pelvis and thighs of a woman.
The next day, other remains, including the head, were also found during an in-depth excavation of this large park in the northeast of Paris, which is very popular with walkers. The victim was identified on Wednesday thanks to the analysis of fingerprints: it is a 46-year-old woman, living in Seine-Saint-Denis, whose husband had reported the disappearance on February 6.
Husband’s inconsistencies
According to BFMTV on Friday, “investigators are wondering about the inconsistencies of the husband”, the latter having taken six days to report his disappearance. According to the news channel, he notably “indicated that she had gone out the night of January 30 to 31, while the CCTV cameras in the building do not show it”, and the “investigators realized that “He had not gone to certain places in the capital to look for his wife, as he had initially claimed”. Asked by AFP, the Paris prosecutor’s office however refused to confirm this information.
He also announced that he had opened a preliminary investigation on Friday for breach of professional secrecy in connection with the assertions of BFMTV. The investigations are entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN).
