In 2021 Walt Disney has already spent 25 billion US dollars (around 22 million euros) on films and series, but for the tax year 2022 the entertainment company will increase by a third. As the Industry magazine “Variety” reports, Disney will handle $ 33 billion in fiscal year 2022, which began October 1, 2021. The entertainment giant has reported the numbers to the American tax authorities.

According to “Variety”, Disney wants to invest primarily in streaming with the injection of money. The in-house service Disney + should benefit from this, but also the streamers Hulu and ESPN Plus, which are also part of the group. The latter mainly broadcasts sports, Disney wants to invest in broadcasting rights here.

Linear television and movies are also to be financed from the 33 billion pot, even if on-demand is to enjoy priority. In the streaming sector, market leader Netflix is ​​to be attacked, which in the last tax year “only” spent 14 billion.

50 new films and series

Disney plans to bring around 50 new films and series to theaters in the current fiscal year or publish them on streaming platforms. The reason for the full schedule is said to be that many projects that had to be postponed due to the corona pandemic are still in the pipeline.

In classic television, Disney plans to release around 150 series, five TV films and a number of other programs.
