Disney+: a collaboration between Star Wars and Ghibli for the anniversary of the platform


It’s Christmas before time! Disney+ has just given us a little surprise with the short film Zen: Grogu and the Susuwatari, the fruit of the unprecedented collaboration between Lucasfilm and Studio Ghibli. This film is intended to celebrate the three years of the streaming platform and the series The Mandalorian.

When Star Wars meets Totoro

Surprise of the weekend for Disney + subscribers, the release this Saturday, November 12 of the short film Zen: Grogu and the Susuwatariwhich brings together the worlds of Lucasfilm studios (Star Wars, IndianaJones) and Ghibli.

This short 3-minute traditional animation film is directed by Katsuya Kondo, animator on Ghibli classics such as Porco Rosso and Princess Mononoke. We can see the little Grogu (alias Baby Yoda) in full meditation, who meets the Susuwatari, the “black women” visible in My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited away. A Zen parenthesis to the bewitching music of Ludwig Göransson (The Mandalorian, tenet), perfect for breakfast and a good start to the day.

This short film aims to blow out the three candles of the Disney+ platform, launched on November 12, 2019, as well as to celebrate the release of The Mandalorian the same day. Enough to keep fans waiting impatiently for the third season of the Star Wars series, scheduled for February 2023.
