Disney+: a first very retro trailer for the biopic series on Karl Lagerfeld

After the series Cristobal Balenciaga released last January, the Disney+ streaming platform is preparing to welcome a new production dedicated to a great designer: Becoming Karl Lagerfeld. A prestigious series which has just revealed its first images.

This mini-series previously titled Kaiser Karl will recount a pivotal era in the stylist’s career, which will see him blossom before the world: the 70s. In the role of Lagerfeld, we find the actor Daniel Brühl seen notably in Good bye Lenin!, Rush, Inglourious Basterdsand who plays Baron Zemo in the MCU.

Here is the official synopsis of the series: “In 1972, Karl Lagerfeld was 38 years old and was not yet wearing his famous ponytail. He is a ready-to-wear designer unknown to the general public. While he meets the sulphurous Jacques de Bascher, an ambitious and disturbing young dandy with whom he falls in love, the most mysterious of fashion designers will dare to measure himself against his friend and rival Yves Saint Laurent, genius of haute couture, supported by the formidable businessman Pierre Bergé“.

The series promises to take us on a journey from Paris to Rome via Monaco, in an environment where glamour, ego and art often co-exist with a bang. We will also come across illustrious personalities from this period and this environment: Andy Warhol, Marlene Dietrich, Carla Fendi, Paloma Picasso…

Alongside Daniel Brühl, a prestigious casting with a French tendency is deployed: Agnès Jaoui, Alex Lutz, Arnaud Valois, Théodore Pellerin, Jeanne Damas and even Féodor Atkine.

Adapted from the novel by Raphaëlle Bacqué published in 2019, Becoming Karl Lagerfeld is also and above all the new French production of Disney+, after the successful Oussekine And Everything is fine. Co-created by author Isaure Pisani-Ferry (Robbers: the series) and Jennifer Have, this series is produced by Arnaud de Crémiers (Irresistible, Totems), Jérôme Salles (The Odyssey) and Isabelle Degeorges (Pax Massilia).

All six episodes of the series Becoming Karl Lagerfeld will be available on June 7 on Disney+.
