Disney in poor shape after the release of its new film Wish

(AOF) – Disney occupies one of the last places in the Dow Jones, falling 0.65% to 95.44 dollars. His new animated film Wish didn’t get off to the best start at the US box office over Thanksgiving weekend, grossing less than $20 million despite costing $230 million to produce. A sluggish start while forecasts published last month predicted a launch of between $45 and $50 million. The film is still scheduled to be released in a number of countries until January 2024. Its release in France is scheduled for Wednesday, November 29.

Remember that for its fourth quarter, Disney published solid results. Over the period, the entertainment giant’s adjusted EPS stood at 82 cents compared to 30 cents a year earlier, thus exceeding the consensus of 70 cents. Segment operating income grew by 86%, to $2.97 billion. Its turnover, in line with expectations, amounted to 21.24 billion dollars, up 5% compared to the same period a year earlier.

Over the July-September period, Disney reduced the loss of its “streaming” division, which also includes Hulu and ESPN+, to $387 million, compared to $1.47 billion a year earlier, thanks to higher prices and growing advertising revenue.

The group said this division is expected to become profitable by September 2024.
